Lecture: Electronic Business (summer 2015)

Electronic business describes the support of business processes in and between organizations through information and communication technologies. The goals include customer oriented design and optimization of business processes, automated software support for enterprise processes, and the development of cross-company standards and protocols.

Internet standards and semantic description methods for business objects (e.g. products or services) play an important role in the development of e-business applications.

The following topics are discussed in the lecture:

  • Introduction to electronic business
  • Electronic markets, types of auctions and virtual agents
  • XML-based description of products and services
  • Standards in e-business (products, catalogues, processes, etc.)
  • Web services (SOAP, WSDL, UDDI)
  • Process modelling
  • Business Process Execution Language (BPEL)
  • E-business architectures and frameworks
  • Shop systems and Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Recommender Systems
  • Supply Chain Management (SCM)
  • Success factors for e-business: Usability, legal issues, etc.
