Movie Landscape

The Movie Landscape application uses a landscape metaphor to enhance user preference elicitation: Items of large information spaces are arranged on a two-dimensional map in a way, that the distance between two items expresses their similarity. Using the third dimension, users can form hills and valleys on this map according to their preferences. This information is then used for calculating personal item recommendations. In the same manner, landscapes for existing user profiles can be generated, thus letting the user alter an existing preference profile.

Even though the Movie Landscape application is settled in the movie domain, the according workflow may also be assigned to different information spaces, including e-commerce products, music interprets or books.
